We live in complex times. Unprecedented events now happen in Washington DC every day, and it's hard to know what it all means -- or whether it means anything to most people in their daily lives. 

What happens in our government does affect each of us, often in non-obvious ways. Every American has the right to understand what's at stake for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Why It Matters is a project dedicated to making that possible. By offering clear, straightforward Q&A on important topics, we want to help Americans -- our families, our neighbors, and people all over the country -- understand why it matters.

We are volunteers with relevant background in the topics we cover. You can see a list of contributors at the end of each Q&A doc. This project is not run by any political party, company, or other organization. 

The contributors to each Q&A doc are individuals with relevant knowledge and experience, and multiple contributors check each article for accuracy. We rely on reputable sources and include links to support important points.
